From: East Berlin, PA Dear TaxMama, Are hearing aids a medical deduction? Ruth Hi Ruth, Absolutely - if you can itemize AAAANNNDDD, if you can use medical deductions. And unless you are quite ill, with no insurance and no medical coverage, chances are that you will not be able to use a medical deduction at all. For example, let's say your income is $30,000. You lose 7.5% of your medical expenses under the law - so you would not be able to deduct the first $2,250.00 of medical expenses. Then, you must be able to itemize. With income that low, you won't have much state income tax - so unless you have a mortgage or tithe, you probably won't have more expenses than your standard deduction. You'll find yours on the chart here. Best wishes, Eva Rosenberg |
