Another Scam?
» From: Poynette, WI
Dear TaxMama:
I received a phone call from a company claiming that for $370.00
they will send me paper work to so that I can get the rest of
my refund back.
I don't have any of the company's info.
Who do I talk to, to report this.
Patricia
Dear Patricia,
Sounds really bad to me.
But, if you didn't get any information, there's no
one to talk to. No one can follow up a ghost.
And believe me, IRS, police and other agencies know this
kind of nonsense goes on all the time. But, to track it
down, they need phone numbers, names, addresses,
SOMETHING, as a starting point.
Next time, if they refuse to give you information,
perhaps you can try dialing *69 (or is it #69)
and see if you can get the phone number to show up on
your phone's display. Then, call the police and ask them
to help you.
Better yet, if they were going to send the paperwork,
get excited and ask them to mail you something. Take
that to the cops.
Good thing you were smart enough not to give them your
ID#s or credit card information.
Best wishes,
Eva Rosenberg
