This is the brainchild of Carl Furst of Vote.com.
What a terrific idea for an objective decision process. They seem to have
arrangements with attorneys to bring their cases to this public forum. You
read the case, with all the explanations from both sides, supporting evidence,
witness statemets and all.
I don't know how binding the decision is; or what fees are paid by attorneys;
or how the judgement is going to be enforced... but if this is planned out
properly and developed well over the next year or so, to add some enforcement
or collection teeth, this may well be the solution to disputes between people
doing business online, as well as a way to cut the backlog in courts.
Apparently, for now, this is another way for attorneys to get an idea of
how a jury might look at a case, or the arguments they present.
Once you've rendered your decision about guilt or culpability, and degree
of responsibility of each party, legalvote.com asks you explain why you decided
the way you did. It asks you what more information you'd have wanted to see
- and it also, as a last little item, asks if you have any special perspective
or experience (in other words, any bias) that you bring to the case.
Attorneys who use this service will either decide to settle, or get enough
solid feedback to do a better job presenting their cases.
Very clean, well done! This is a winner.
