Not Quite Married
From: Rancho Cucamonga, CA Dear TaxMama, I have a friend with a question. She and her boyfriend live together. They have a child but are not legally married. They are going to be by November. Can they put married status on their W-4's now? Or will they get in trouble? Thanks. Dee
Hi Dee, If they are married as of December 31st, then for IRS purposes, they are married right now. No worries if they use married as a W-4 status. Just be sure they do go through with it. Congratulate them! Best Wishes,
