Tax Calendar Deadlines Looming -

October 15th -
FINAL deadline to file your personal tax return
October 31st -
Payroll, Sales Tax Returns Due (IRS)

Dear Family,

This issue will be short and sweet, since I really have to rush off and do tax returns.

As of last night, we finished ALL the tax returns for our clients who were kind enough to get us their information.

Now comes the tough task of chasing down all the perfectionists - those who can't bear to release their precious data until it's perfect.

Well, TaxMama has a message for you.

STOP WAITING FOR PERFECT ACCURACY!

If you haven't finished your accounting, data gathering, etc., GIVE IT UP! Just make up a list of reasonable estimates and FILE that return by Monday!

I'm not kidding. If you turn out to be wrong, you have three years to file a correct tax return (amended return). But if you don't file... Uh oh!

If you don't file at all, your NON-FILING penalties are 25% of the balance due PLUS interest. Surely, this is daunting.

So stop trying to be a perfectionist and just, get it done.

Let me give you another reason to get it done now.

In my experience, a much higher proportion of late-filed tax returns get audited. So, now, you think you've done a 'perfect job.' You get audited and find out that you are wrong.

You've already had to pay 25% late filing penalties and interest when you filed - just wait until you get the audit adjustments and have to pay them again on those errors.

File on time, even though your return is riddled with errors. Then, any adjustments, should you ever be audited will be about 30% cheaper.

I am off to do tax returns! Why? Because the truth is, no matter how much I grumble, I love my clients too much to ever let them get into trouble. What's a Mama to do?!

Love and Best wishes,

Eva Rosenberg, EA
